Possiamo certamente dire,
Senza commenti. Buon successo e due bis.

We can certainly say that this was an interesting concert by a very young performer, with a programme clearly tailored to her specific sensibility. I am referring to Scrjabin: in the three pieces she offered the very best of herself. Excellent technique, an ability to convey the composer’s poetic world, and a youthful exuberance which, in this case, takes on a positive connotation. Scrjabin is a composer “outside the mainstream” of his time, one who aligns neither with the avant‑garde nor with conservatism in a culturally rich yet highly controversial period straddling two centuries. Oganyan found exactly the right approach to fully capture his spirit, perhaps also thanks to her own Russian cultural background. The concert also included three works by Chopin, with different results. The performance of the Scherzo and the Fantaisie was good (and clearly benefited from the advices of her current mentors), whereas the Nocturne was disfigured by excessive speed and sonority, turning the “nocturne” into a noisy “diurnal”. A youthful excess? Perhaps — but the process of study and maturation must lead to greater awareness of the nature of the piece being performed. The concert opened with three Debussy’s Preludes and the famous Isle joyeuse. While the Preludes were played more than acceptably (though the search for Debussy’s aqueous sonorities still has a long way to go), the Isle joyeuse was performed in a wholly unacceptable manner. It is a very particular piece, difficult to place within the French composer’s cultural trajectory. Here, the excessive speed (one need only think of the dotted‑rhythm passages), the glittering sonorities, and the headlong musical gallop have nothing to do with Debussy,  for whom the cultural context and specific sensitivity must always be kept in mind. It is not an easy piece in which to find the right balance, but in Oganyan’s case we are completely off track. The audience response was positive, though in the three Chopin pieces they applauded after the Scherzo and the Fantasie and did not realise the Nocturne had ended: applause only comes after a loud,  fast piece. No comment. A good success overall, with two encores.
