Un concerto luci e ombre.
Un’esecuzione impeccabile della partita bachiana sia da un punto di vista tecnico che interpretativo Donato non usa il pedale di risonanza (approccio correttissimo) ma non evita le sfumature esprimendo quindi il meglio del brano rimanendo però sempre assolutamente in stile. E’ questa la modalità – a mio parere – con la quale si deve affrontare un brano bachiano (forse non dei più belli). Discorso del tutto diverso per la fantasia di Chopin. Donato ha una grande capacità di “cantare” ovvero di utilizzare un tocco levigato e un’espressività di prim’ordine. Ma.. purtroppo ecco che un eccesso di esuberanza la porta a eccedere di velocità nelle parti più accelerate con la conseguenza che si evidenziano alcune imperfezioni tecniche ma soprattutto si perde il tessuto musicale del brano in un profluvio di note affastellate e confuse. Un vero peccato perché un po’ più di controllo (la giovane età non aiuta, é vero) e quindi di maturità interpretativa avrebbe migliorato di molto l’esecuzione del brano. Nella seconda parte l’Humoreske di Schumann, brano invero poco frequentato (come è il caso delle Novellette senza un vero motivo appartenendo tutte allo stesso ambito musicale del compositore di Zwickau). Qui l’atteggiamento è risultato un po’ più maturo anche nei capitoli più virtuosistici ottenendo un risultato di buona qualità. Donato è una giovane pianista molto dotata che promette molto se verrà a compimento il necessario processo di maturazione. Speriamo di risentirla presto anche in brani interpretativi più impegnativi (ad esempio l’ultimo Brahms). Due bis e un buon successo di pubblico.

A concert of light and shadow. An impeccable performance of the Bach’s Partita, both technically and interpretatively. Donato does not use the sustaining pedal (a perfectly correct approach), yet she does not renounce nuance, thus bringing out the best in the piece while remaining absolutely within stylistic boundaries. This is—at least in my view—the way a Bach work should be approached (even if this is perhaps not one of the most beautiful). A completely different case for Chopin’s Fantaisie. Donato has a remarkable ability to “sing,” that is, to use a polished touch and first‑rate expressiveness. But… unfortunately, an excess of exuberance leads her to push the tempo too far in the more accelerated sections, with the result that certain technical imperfections become evident and, above all, the musical texure dissolves into a torrent of crowded, confused notes. A real pity, because a bit more control (her young age, admittedly, does not help) and thus greater interpretative maturity would have greatly improved the performance. In the second half, Schumann’s Humoreske—a piece seldom performed (as is the case with the Novellette, without any real reason, since they all belong to the same expressive world of the Zwickau composer). Here her approach appeared somewhat more mature, even in the more virtuosic sections, yielding a result of good quality.Donato is a very gifted young pianist who promises a lot, provided the necessary process of maturation comes to fruition. Let us hope to hear her again soon, also in more demanding interpretative repertoire (for instance, the last pieces of Brahms). Two encores and a warm reception from the audience.
