. .si presenta il “giovane” (mica tanto – 28 anni anche se sembra un ragazzino) Julius Asal, una “new entry” per Bologna. A 28 anni chi ha vinto grandi concorsi (i.e. lo Chopin con Blechaz, Jundi LI, Marta Argerich etc.) è da tempo in carriera (ma non sempre: il vincitore di questo anno Eric Lu ha già 30 anni). Difficile esprimere un giudizio ponderato: il primo concerto di Skrjabin è un’opera relativamente giovanile e francamente discutibile dal punto di vista musicale. Asal ha eseguito in modo corretto, senza particolari qualità, ma sarebbe ingeneroso trarre conclusioni definitive. Certamente un beniamino del pubblico per l’età apparente e il caschetto biondo alla Caterina Caselli che agita in modo sapiente. Forse sarebbe bene che si astenesse da gesti plateali che poco si addicono a un “giovane”. Esegue due bis: un Prokoviev e uno a me sconosciuto. A suo merito quello di avere evitato esibizioni ginniche nei bis come molti esecutori non conosciuti utilizzano per colpire il pubblico. Ma del concerto va ricordata soprattutto la eccezionale direzione di Boreyko e una prestazione di alto livello dell’orchestra del teatro comunale che da tempo si è lasciata alle spalle un passato non glorioso. La sinfonia di Šostakovič è stata eseguita con tutto il pathos che racchiude e con prestazioni individuali di grande livello (ad esempio quella del primo violoncello). Da tempo non avevamo assistito a un concerto sinfonico di così alto livello. Grande succsso del pubblico.

Replacing the expected Kissin the “young” (not so young—28, even if he looks like a kid) Julius Asal appears, a “new entry” for Bologna. At 28, someone who has won major competitions (i.e., the Chopin with Blechaz, Jundi LI, Marta Argerich, etc.) has been in career for a long time (but not always: this year’s winner, Eric Lu, is already 30). It’s difficult to express a valuable opinion: Skrjabin’s first concerto is a relatively youthful work and frankly questionable from a musical standpoint. Asal performed correctly, without any particular qualities, but it would be unfair to draw definitive conclusions. He’s certainly a favorite with the audience due to his apparent age and the Caterina Caselli-style bob that he wields expertly. Perhaps it would be best if he refrained from the theatrical gestures that are unbecoming of a “young man.” He performed two encores: a Prokofiev and one unknown to me. To his credit, he avoided the gymnastic exhibition in the encores that many lesser-known performers employ to impress the audience. But what is most memorable about the concert is Boreyko’s exceptional conducting and a high-level performance by the Comunale Theater Orchestra, which has long since left behind a less than glorious past. Shostakovich’s symphony was performed with all the emotion it contains and with outstanding individual performances (for example, that of the principal cello). We have not seen such a high-level symphony concert in a long time. A great success with the audience
