MATISSE
Un (ancora abbastanza) giovane, ..
. . violoncellista e un (ex grande) vecchio della direzione orchestrale. Un concerto con due brani strepitosi e – quello beethoveniano – conosciutissimo anche dal pubblico meno avvertito. Di certo un concerto non memorabile. Partiamo dall’orchestra. Nel terzo tempo della sinfonia i corni hanno ricordato quelli che erano un tempo i corni dell’orchestra del teatro comunale (ora fortunatamente non più!). Sappiamo tutti che i corni sono strumenti infidi ma questo non giustifica nulla e nel succitato tempo hanno un ruolo fondamentale che purtroppo è stato svillaneggiato ripetutamente con intonazioni incerte ed emissioni diseguali. Gli altri ottoni, quando richiamati, hanno ecceduto in sonorità coprendo il resto della compagine orchestrale e la responsabilità è stata certamente di Herrewege, forse un tempo un grande direttore ma ora semplicemente una presenza accessoria che anzichè dirigere “accompagna” l’orchestra con un gesto stanco e non significativo (e l’età non conta: si pensi a Mehta!). Un’orchestra con le sonorità tutte squilibrate e gli applausi finali erano dedicati alla musica (che bello per un pubblico poco esperto sentire un brano che è noto!) e non a una direzione da dimenticare. Quanto al bellissimo concerto di Haydn si può dire che Brantelid è dotato di una bellissima tecnica ma poi tutto finisce lì. Anzichè ammiccare costantemente all’orchestra e al direttore (per dimostrare la propria sicurezza) sarebbe stato ben meglio che avesse approfondito i valori musicali della composizione, soprattutto perchè il suo suono è costantemente flebile come comprovato anche dall’unico bis, una sarabanda eseguita non benissimo, dalle suites per violoncello solo di Bach (che – sarebbe bene ricordarlo – ha previsto la presenza dei ritornelli finiti invece in cavalleria). Ciliegina sulla torta, l’inizio ritardato del concerto rispetto all’orario previsto per accomodare i ritardatari (che invece andrebbero puniti come monito) in spregio alla correttezza di chi si è presentato in orario. Provincialismo puro.

PS Un “blogger” non è un oracolo e commette inevitabilmente errori (il minimo possibile..). Ricevo spesso “correzioni” non sempre fondamentali e non sempre precise. Così come io mi sottopongo al giudizio altrui con nome e cognome così chi vorrà avere la bontà di segnalarmi eventuali errori o imprecisioni dovrà farlo unicamente mandando un commento: a ognuno la propria responsabilità. A (still quite) young cellist and an old man of orchestral conducting. A concert with two amazing pieces and – the Beethoven one – well known even by the less warned public. Certainly not an unforgettable concert. Let’s start with the orchestra. In the third mouvement of the symphony the horns recalled what were once the horns of the orchestra of Bologna (now fortunately no longer!). We all know that horns are very difficult instruments but this does not justify anything and in the aforementioned mouvement they have a fundamental role that unfortunately has been repeatedly plagued with uncertain intonations and unequal emissions. The other brasses, when performed, have exceeded in sonority covering the rest of the orchestral team and the responsibility was certainly fo the conductor Herrewege, perhaps once a great conductor but now simply an accessory presence that instead of conducting “accompanies” the orchestra with a tired and insignificant gesture (and age does not matter: let’s think of Mehta!). An orchestra with unbalanced sounds and the final applause was dedicated to the music (how nice for an inexperienced audience to hear a piece that is known!) and not to a direction to forget. As for Haydn’s beautiful concert, it can be said that Brantelid is endowed with an excellent technique but this is all. Instead of constantly winking at the orchestra and the conductor (to demonstrate his mastery of the cello) it would have been much better if he had explored the musical values of the composition, especially because his sound is constantly feeble as evidenced by the only encore, a sarabande (performed not very well) of the suites for solo cello by Bach (which – it would be good to remember – provided for the presence of the refrains in this case totally missed ). Icing on the cake, the delayed start of the concert compared to the scheduled time, to accommodate latecomers (who should instead be punished as a warning) in defiance of the correctness of those who showed up on time. Pure provincialism.

PS A “blogger” is not an oracle and inevitably makes errors (the minimum possible..). I often receive “corrections” not always fundamental and not always accurate. Just as I submit myself to the judgement of others with the name and surname so those who want to have the goodness to report errors or inaccuracies will have to do so only by sending a comment: everyone has his own responsibility.
